Everything going on in the world is mad. I don’t know what to do with myself half the time. It’s difficult to concentrate. I wanna keep on top of everything going on in the news, but at the same time I have a lot of shit at home I need to keep on top of. Work. Cleaning the house. Making dinner. Working out. You’d think being at home now would mean I have even more time on my hands to do everything. But it’s becoming the total opposite. I feel like everything is 10x longer to do. Maybe it’s because my attention’s being pulled in a lot of different directions. I can’t be sure. But, hat I do know is that I’m not alone. Have you ben feeling like it too? Yea - well I have some tips that I think will help.
Tip #1: Bla bla bla
Before you start any work, get out a pen and paper or even not down in your phone if you prefer and list out all the things you need to do that day. I like to spell it out into time blocks. Because if you’re anything like me, then you probably have a habit of making a list of to-dos for the day that is highly unreasonable and there’s no way in hell it’ll actually get done. Then the end of the day comes, I’ve only ticked off liek 2 things on the list, and I feel even more shit about myself. To stop that from happening, I block out times to to work on things. For instance, 9am - 10am take Harvey for a walk. 10am - 11am send emails. You get the gist.
Tip #2: Bla bla bla
This step is hard to do, especially if you live with lots of people but the best way to actually stick to your to do list and get shit done is to carve out a space to do your getting shit done. Even if it’s just a corner of a room, creating a space where it’s for you to work gets you into the mode of work. Whenever you sit there it’ll fire your body and mind into action to be like “Oh right, this is that place I get shit done. Better get to it”.
Tip #3: bla bla bla
When it’s time to clock off, clock off! It’s so easy to keep grinding late into the evening because we’re at home and dont have to think about the usual commute to get home. We think “Ah, I’ve saved myself an hour where I’d usually be on a stinky subway cart. I’ll crank out another hour”. No girlfriend. Stick to the schedule you wrote in the morning (refer to step 1) and finish! The easiest trick I have to make me stop everything, even when I’m in the middle of a sentence in an email, is to run myself a hot bath and reach for my Pearlessence bath bomb. Not only does the excitement of a relaxing soak make me wanna stop what I’m doing, but the anticipation of what new ring I’m gonna find in the depths of my tub, you don’t need to ask me twice. And coupled with the relaxing scents of my Pearlessence candle, girl, no matter what kinda shitty day I had at the WFH office, it’s all forgotten and I’m re-energised for the following work-day. Plus, I have a new sparkling ring to conveniently brush my hair with on Zoom the entire way through the call. Winning.
